Process
The Pre-Design phase is all about research. We learn your design preferences and project requirements through questionnaires and meetings, and research potential limitations on your project due to the land, existing buildings, or restrictions placed by municipal ordinances. Your home and property are thoroughly documented, and this information is added to what by now is a large pile of data we will reference once we dive into the fun stuff.
Schematic Design is where your project starts to take shape. We will visualize multiple possibilities for your viewing pleasure via line drawings and rendered images. After the initial round of design options is created, we enter a process of fine tuning that takes the best elements of these options, considers all of your feedback, and ends with a final design, often after multiple iterations. At the end of this phase, it is back to the practical - any necessary zoning and historical approvals are sought, and a contractor is selected to provide pricing feedback - and the design is adjusted as needed.
Now the project vision is cemented, we begin Construction Documentation. All about the details, this is where every inch of your project is specified, from the structure to the finishes. JMA prepares a lengthy set of drawings and specifications, consulting with the project engineer and contractor. These drawings will define all aspects of your project and will allow for a building permit and guide your builder through construction.
Often coinciding with this phase is Interior Architecture design. From designing custom cabinetry to selecting paint colors and light fixtures, every part of your home’s interior must be determined. JMA will walk through the process with you.
Finally, it is time for Construction. As your builder creates your home, JMA will help to ensure everything is built to your exact specification.
